Arduino microcontrollers are powerful platforms for circuit prototyping. Improving the usability of its necessary components and giving it physical structure improves learning and makes it more attractive to a wide range of interests. Chad Norman and Terri Sligar are public school teachers in Mount Vernon, WA. After years of teaching Arduino development to middle school, high school, and college students, a versatile and interactive system was developed. The Odyssey Board prototyping platform allows for artistic, creative, and functional system development. The kits consist of an Uno microcontroller with a new pin layout. This bus system reduces or eliminates the need for a breadboard. From a 3-D printed base, dowels rods and hex shaped jumper sockets are used to build and prototype systems with a wide range of open source sensors and actuators. Attendees will work with kits to build a range of Arduino systems.
